Rituals and Wreckage

May is approaching! The wonderful holiday of Beltane or May day falls on the first day of May. It brings in the beauty of spring. In my opinion it is the more “fae” of “fairy” like of them all. When I think of beautiful spring flowers and cottage core styles, Beltane is the first thing to come to mind. Flower crowns, dancing, joy, its all very beautiful. Lets get into it!

Beltane In My Home

My husband is an avid mower, so we wont be able to do our flower crowns this year. I may do some cute homemade print outs to teach the kids a few wonderful things about the holidays though. We are wanting to build a fire and do a little bonfire dancing with some music. I am hoping to decorate my altar this week as well. A few things I will be adding :

• Red and white decor for fire and purity/fertility. (most likely candles)
• A turkey feather from my husband (an offering)
• Some flowers I fresh pick this week
• Acrons if I can find them
• And Egg from my chickens (fertility)
• Burning candles for fire.

It probably wont be much more intricate than that.

Chaos In The Celebration

Now we all know kids and fire is a wonderful combination, (joking) so I am curious to see how our late night will go. We most likely will have to wait until after the kiddos go to bed. I will invite a few friends over and make a few finger foods but that should mostly be it. I havent been in the mood to clean very much and dont want to do much more this weekend. Now if you have the energy too some spring cleaning would be PERFECT this weekend. Open the windows, cleanse your space, welcome in the air of growth and new life. Now if you have kids, (or feral raccoons as I call them) please be careful opening windows. I throw away a lot of toys that “accidentally” get tossed outside by their excitement. Now is the time as well to clean things you often forget about. Return vents, window sills, under the toilet. Really try to take the time if you can to cleanse your space. Im gonna sip on some adult juice and stare at a pretty fire, but I wish you the best of luck!

Origins of Beltane

So incase you havent caught on, Beltane is a celebration of new life and beginnings, the earth reawakening and becoming beautiful again. We are gearing up for Summers explorations and hardwork. According to a few other witches its named after the god “Bel” or “Belenus” . In laymens terms, get your plants growing, practice fertility, and ‘celebrate the cows returning to the pasture”. All i know is, flowers, fire, adult time, and gardening (the legit in the dirt kind).

Personally I suck at gardening. I have a black thumb and Im lazy with weeding. I will be attempting to get my plants in the garden once this crazy rain calms down. Let me tell you what trying to garden with a 2 year old isnt for the week. Between him being naked and chasing the chickens while trying to water the garden and him, we either flood the yard or just get so muddy I have to give up planting and put him in the bath.
