Good Witch VS Bad Witch

There are so many different types of witches out there, just like there are so many denominations of other religions. Grey witches, light witches, kitchen witches, hedge witches, Pagans, Wiccans, eclectic,,, etc etc etc, The list goes on forever. What defines a good versus a bad witch though? Who makes these decisions? What kind of witch are you?

Ravings of a Crone

So to be fair, like the rest of my blog, this is going to be a strongly worded opinion of mine. It is going to come from my own preferences and experiences. So be ready for a small soapbox or two. This topic is a weird one because in my opinion it almost goes political, but I will be keeping this a spiritual conversation.

Recently I received a comment on my facebook about how this topic needs to be covered and talked about a bit more so I am super happy to indulge! A lot of witches are perceived in a “bad” or “good” light. I used to think I needed to check the boxes to fit into a specific definition, and then I learned that that is the whole point of witchcraft. I don’t check the boxes, and that’s what makes it so amazing. This craft is MINE. Not in a gatekeeper kind of way, but I make it what I want it to be for myself, and others make it what they want for themselves. I firmly rage against the ideology that there’s some higher power out there dictating that there are specific ways we have to practice our craft.

Why the label is “Good” or “Bad”

I honestly haven’t done enough research yet to know which started first – witches just being labeled as bad by normies – or witches defining themselves that way. I honestly don’t know where to find the historical truth thanks to the defamation and slander witches have faced for so long. For the longest time i struggled with my faith in the craft because I feel like there’s so many misrepresentations of us that there’s no way I could truly have the gifts that i have. No I am not a super hero who can fly and levitate like off The Craft (LOVE THAT MOVIE) but I do have a small arsenal of spiritual gifts that I hold dear. It took a long time to realize them and believe in them, but thats also the mental illness and self doubt haha…… The voices…. Just kidding thats… COPYRIGHT SHUT UPPPPP. Anywhoooooooo.

Inside of the community itself though witches still define themselves between light and dark, good and bad. The good witches are the “love and light” practitioners. They don’t do any sort of hexing, very little summoning, that sort of thing. Very beautiful in my opinion, just not my style. A common belief I’ve seen amongst the “good” witches is that “karma will do the work for them” and that is where we differ. Sometimes, I am the Karma.

So that gets us to our “bad” witches. I hex, have several people in jars in my freezer or back yard, I practice in blood magic, I have used Ouija boards, I have called demons names. Its been a “dark” path. That doesn’t mean my blood runs black and I grew warts and hate the world. In fact I have a lot of respect for nature and I’m currently working to change a lot of my habits to be more economical and find outreaches to help support the environment where it ACTUALLY goes to the environment and not some idiots yacht… I also believe in the practice of sacrifice and I heavily look up to “dark goddesses” like Hekate and Lillith.

So Am I Evil?

No I don’t perceive myself as “evil” at all. I have a give and take relationship with nature and my Gods/Goddesses. I don’t go around hurting people on a whim. I see beauty in the darkness because I am aware without it there cannot be light. There HAS to be balance, but that doesn’t make me evil.

Now I am NOT bashing people who believe in the ideology. You believe what YOU want to believe and practice what YOU want to practice. This is just my personal opinion. If that’s the vibe you want to run with, run with it. I personally just disagree with labels in general. What does it matter what someone practices or who and how they worship? Just live for you not everyone else.

On that note Thanks for joining me today on this oddly hot topic! See you again soon!
