Homestead and Witchery

Every year, about this time, the unnerving drive to start a homestead hits. I crave being outside and with animals and planting things (even though I have a black thumb). I don’t know if its the nature aspect or if its the self sufficiency craving. Maybe its both. Maybe its Mayb………. Nevermind I don’t wanna get copyrighted.

I genuinely think though that there’s just a deep rooted connection to me and dark/foresty/cottage witchery. Dark Cottage Core is my favorite theme. I feel like an old crone, craving a mossy covered cottage deep in the woods surrounded by animals and nature. No neighbors. But also…. I enjoy a certain sense of community. I enjoy farmstands and farmers markets and going shopping occasionally. I enjoy being able to barter with someone decently nearby if I am out of eggs or something. But I also want to be able to walk out on my back porch in whatever I want to wear (or not) and enjoy a crips summer morning without the cops being called or peeping toms.

How Do They Blend?

Well there are a few ways. For starters, going off grid and being in nature can help you feel more energized and connected to nature itself. Growing your own garden would be growing your own ingredients for spell work. Livestock can be used in offerings, both the animal itself and its byproducts.

In the time its taken me to build this post we acquired 15 chicks! Its definitely been a roller coaster already. We are working on building up our coop. The structure is finished, we just have to finish the small things like nesting boxes and feeders. I am so excited that they have so many uses! Eggs, pest eaters, poop for compost, and hopefully I can socialize them to be almost pets! (We have little hope but we shall see). Also eventually we will use them to breed new chickens and to eat as they age out of laying. I can use their eggs and feathers as offerings as well! And eventually their bones as decor or other items.

I will also be doing a (hopefully) large garden as well. I’m currently trying to convince the husband to build me a massive greenhouse. This is just a start. I’m hoping to start doing things like making our own spices and making all of our food homemade as well. To add insult to injury our entire household has come down with some mysterious flu…. So time to whip up some herbal remedies!

So what is the point of this?

I know… short attention span short blog I’m sorryyyyyy. Anyway.

Homesteading can be a wonderful change both physically and mentally and spiritually. You get to discover so much inside yourself and in nature and it can help you grow so much in so many ways. I always will push for you to be closer to nature. Its part of bring a witch. So on that note, keep on the lookout for my latest etsy listings and more homestead and witchy updates! Thank you again for joining me on my chaos journey!
